All-action TV presenter Suzi Perry has helped launch an innovative emergency device for motorbike riders.
Suzi, famous for pit lane interviews at World Superbike and MotoGP and as a presenter of Channel 5’s The Gadget Show commented at the launch event:
“I think UTAG is a great innovation, I’m a keen biker and so are many of my friends. Safety is a number one priority and this is one piece of kit I would seriously recommend and wouldn’t leave home without it.”
UTAG has been developed by SAS soldiers for use in an emergency. With its unique and durable dogtag design, the UTAG electronically stores vital information on a USB ‘stick’.
It’s designed to stand out to emergency services, showing the international medical symbol (the snake and the sceptre) and the letters ICE - fast becoming recognised as an emergency symbol, meaning ‘in case of emergency’. It will initially be targeted at motorbike riders.
UTAG can be worn on a dogtag chain, zip pull or keyring and costs just £19.95. The lightweight, aluminium style gives it a fashionable edge and comes with an additional blank dogtag to personalise.
UTAG has a USB interface which is PC-compatible and the bespoke software has been designed to be completely user-friendly, quick to upload and easy to access when required.
It stores photo ID, emergency contact details, blood type and key medical history and GP contact details. Its unique translation function means that essential medical information can be accessed in any of the major European languages when travelling outside the UK.
UTAG marketing director Steve Allen, who has been involved from the early stages, said: “UTAG is designed for when you can’t speak for yourself, the emergency services can check who to contact on your behalf and access all vital medical information. No one wants to think about having an accident but if it does happen, then the best thing to do is to be prepared.
“It can be worn around the neck, a visible location for emergency services, so we are doing everything we can to get essential information into their hands.”

Basically it's a digital dogtag. It utilises the latest USB technology to give electronic data storage, in a style that mimics a traditional dogtag. It has clearly displayed on it, the international medical symbol (the snake and sceptre) and the letters “ICE” which the emergency services are using to denote “In Case of Emergency”.
It can be worn as a dogtag, a zip pull or on a key ring.The unique software has been developed to be easy to use and can include emergency phone contacts, photo ID, GP information and medical information (it's great because all fields are optional - you can have as much or as little information as you choose). The lightweight aluminium dogtag design gives it a stylish and funky edge and it comes with an additional blank dogtag you can personalise.
We were so impressed with it that we feel it deserves to be out there - it has a thousand and one uses and certainly for concert safety is a sure fire winner - it's a great funky fashion accessory with an edge.
Of course beyond concert safety it has many other uses - let's face it - most of us could do with a nifty way of keeping vital information on us - information that's accessible if necessary. Think about it - elderly relatives, kids, people who suffer with a disability and might not be able to communicate readily in an emergency, people who have medical conditions - and the most obvious of all - anyone who might be unconcious and unable to speak.
UTAG was the initial idea of former British SAS soldiers, and you don’t get much more professional than that!
Development, from the initial concept, was assisted by UK leading Health and Safety experts who researched critical information pertaining to the specific needs of the emergency services and event medical companies.
Any people working in the entertainment industry, security sectors or others who have lone workers would all benefit from this product whilst providing their employers and family members with peace of mind. Attacks against Door supervisors have increased dramatically (up by over 40% in Hampshire) and the HSE consider security at high risk for Violence in the Workplace.
Production and touring crews are a key sector that would benefit enormously from this device. The endless hours which crews operate can give rise to an accident even in the most safety conscious environments. How many promoters’ and production/tour managers have the key medical details and next of kin information at hand??? It must be often quite difficult to store all this information, for each crew member and I believe that individuals and employers would benefit by using such a device.
The tag has two formats: the dog tag version and a credit card sized option (for the wallet/purse or on a lanyard) UTAG have a worldwide patent pending on all their products and software. UTAG will also be selling a UTAG tablet screen reader, for those concerned with any cyber crime (for networks). Yamaha World Motor-Cross, and Yamaha British Super-bikes have already signed up for this amazing product, as have some rather enviable other major names in the sporting, corporate and International Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs).
The technical team at UTAG have adapted the software for use by Close Protection High Risk Teams operating in Hostile Environments in Iraq and Afghanistan.

A lot of our enquiries suggest that the incoming Corporate Manslaughter and Homicide Act has certainly concerned some employer’s and others who wish to update their existing company safety regime.
The bottom line is that even with the best systems in place; accidents can, do and will always happen that’s a fact!

UTAG® was initially designed with motorcyclists in mind but is for anyone who considers their personal safety, or the safety of family or friends, as important.
Motorcyclists are very aware that with the joys of biking come unavoidable risks and that accidents can happen. Some already carry contact information in case of emergency but it is difficult to make this visible and accessible and it can be overlooked.
The creator of UTAG® wanted a product that could easily be seen and identified as containing emergency information and could be worn in a visible place. It needed to carry all the information a rider felt was necessary to help in an emergency situation.
It had to give every rider the best possible chance of communicating with the emergency services, letting them know who to contact on their behalf and pass on any medical information they wanted to make available. It also needed to be something a rider would want to wear and would be seen as a worthwhile, fashionable accessory.
